Solar panels in Cochrane, engineered for the wind

Cochrane gets strong sun and strong wind in equal measure. A system here has to be racked for the site, not for a city subdivision, and that's the difference between an array that's still on the roof in twenty years and one that isn't.

Why solar works in Cochrane

Racked for the wind

Cochrane's exposed ridges and the chinooks that funnel down the Bow Valley put real uplift on an array. We engineer the attachment and the racking for the wind load at your address, and we fasten to structure, never just to decking.

Exposed sites, better production

The same openness that brings the wind brings unshaded sun. Cochrane systems routinely out-produce their city equivalents, and the acreages around town can go bigger than any roof allows with a ground mount.

Rocky View knows the delivery charge

On an acreage, the bill is mostly delivery. Our team has built 22 to 42 kW systems around Rocky View for exactly that reason: produce enough in summer to offset the fixed charges, not just the electricity.

We know Cochrane's roofs

Our team has installed across Fireside, Glen Eagles, Heritage Hills, River View, Rocky View and Sunset Ridge.

Also: River View 14 kW, Sunset Ridge 11 kW.

Systems our team designed and installed before Sun’s Up, under its previous company.

Our team has installed over 100 solar systems across Calgary and area since 2019. Roof construction, snow loading and utility process vary across the region, and knowing a subdivision before you arrive is the difference between a clean install and a change order.

How it goes

From a quote to power on

  1. 01

    Tell us about the house

The address and roughly what you spend on power. We look at the roof on satellite before anyone calls you.

  2. 02

    The plan

A design sized to twelve months of your bills, with a fixed price and the year it pays for itself. If the numbers don't work for your house, we say so.

  3. 03

    Permits and the utility

We file the electrical permit, any development permit your municipality wants, and the microgeneration application with your utility.

  4. 04

    Installation

One to two days on the roof for most homes. Roofers and electricians on the same crew, so the penetrations are done the way a roofer does them.

  5. 05

    Inspection

We book it, meet the inspector, and leave the site tidy.

  6. 06

    Power on

We switch the system on, put the monitoring app on your phone, and walk you through what your bill will look like from here.

One person runs your project from the first call to the inspection, so you always know what’s next and who to ask.

Who you deal with

Tyler Marriott, founder and solar designer

The person who designs your system is the person you talk to. Tyler sizes every array himself from the customer’s own bills, and the crew that installs it is the same roofers and electricians who work on our roofing jobs. No call centre, no sales team, no subcontracted install.

We live and work here. If something needs attention in year seven, the people who put it up are the ones who come back.

Paying for it

How Cochrane homeowners pay for solar

Most people don't pay for solar out of savings. Two routes cover nearly everyone, and we'll tell you which one fits before you decide anything.

Clean Energy Improvement Program

Where your municipality takes part, CEIP finances the project through your property tax bill at a fixed rate, and the balance stays with the house if you sell. Application windows open a few times a year and fill quickly, so we get your design ready ahead of one.

Financing through Financeit

Faster approval and no municipal paperwork; we guide you through the application. The goal with any loan is a payment your bill savings cover, so the system is cash-flow neutral from the first month.

Cochrane solar questions

Is solar worth it in Cochrane?
Usually, yes. Cochrane's open sites produce well, and acreage owners in particular have a lot of delivery charges to offset. Most home systems pay for themselves in eight to twelve years. Whether yours does depends on the roof, the shading and your bills, and we'll give you that answer before you spend anything.
Can I go solar without paying upfront?
Yes. Most Cochrane homeowners finance the system so the payment is covered by the savings. Where the town participates in the Clean Energy Improvement Program the loan runs through property tax and stays with the house; otherwise lender financing is quick to arrange.
Will the panels survive a chinook?
That's a racking question more than a panel question, and it's the one we design for in Cochrane. Attachments go into structure, the rail layout and fastener count are set by the wind load for your site, and the panels themselves are rated for snow, hail and wind. Done right, the array is the most secure thing on the roof.
What about hail?
The panels are tested against 25 mm hail at highway speed and your home insurance covers them like the rest of the house. Because we're roofers as well as electricians, the roof under the array is inspected first and the penetrations are flashed properly.
What does a Cochrane system cost?
Most in-town homes land between $15,000 and $30,000 before incentives. Acreage systems with a ground mount run higher because they're bigger. Either way the price is fixed once we've seen the site and your last twelve months of bills.
